On this date, President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address honored the 45,000 men killed, injured, captured or went missing in the single bloodiest battle of the Civil War. The Address is only 272 words long.

Western Illinois

In 2001, Lt. Governor Quinn walked from the Mississippi River to Chicago to promote decent health care for everyone. Today his Walk Across Illinois has helped thousands of people go on their own 167-mile trek. Find out more here.

The Illinois State Board of Education and Lt. Governor Quinn are currently implementing a comprehensive one-to-one laptop learning program. This new $5 million initiative is partially based on the computer learning projects of schools like Edison Junior High School in Rock Island. Find out more here.

Lt. Governor Quinn authored Blackout Solutions, the plan for Illinois’ energy security and independence.
