Lt. Governor Quinn encourages the people of Illinois to send gifts to military families

Story:

CHICAGO - December 15, 2008. Just ten days before Christmas, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn encouraged Illinois citizens to participate in the Sears' Heroes at Home Wish Registry to support our military families this holiday season.

"As the holidays approach, we know that our military families will be thinking of their loved ones far from home," Quinn said. "Thanks to Sears' Heroes at Home Wish Registry and the caring people of Illinois, our military families will receive presents that will make their holidays brighter."

More than 30,000 active military members from around the world have shared their story on Sears.com and signed-up for the wish registry.  Gift givers can say thank you to our men and women in uniform and their families by choosing to purchase an item on a military family's wish list or making a monetary donation.  Donations will used to purchase Sears Gift Cards for military families.

Nearly 3,000 Illinois National Guard members from the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team have been deployed to Afghanistan in the past few months.  By this Christmas, the entire brigade will be based in Afghanistan.

"It is important to remember our servicemembers and their families, especially as thousands of our Illinois National Guard members are being called to active duty," Quinn said.  "It is the duty of all of us on the homefront to take good care of those who bear the battle and their families."

Quinn was joined by U.S. Army veteran Gary Shehan and Don Hamblen, retired U.S. Navy Reserve Captain and Sears Holdings Chief Marketing Officer.
