Today, Illinois goes smoke free. Thanks to the Smoke Free Illinois Act, residents of the Land of Lincoln will breathe smoke-free air in all public places. This new law is one of the most comprehensive in the nation in protecting non-smokers from the health dangers of second-hand smoke. Today, Illinois became the 22nd state to pass a law restricting smoking indoors. The Smoke Free Illinois Act bans tobacco smoking in all indoor areas and within 15 feet of their entrances. Private residences not used for social services, private vehicles, private nursing home rooms, limited hotel rooms, and retail tobacco stores are exempted. The strict new state law supercedes local smoking laws. To learn more about Lt. Governor Quinns campaign for healthy communities, please visit www.KeepIllinoisHealthy.org. |
