Albany Park Multicultural Academy
Albany Park Multicultural Center, located on Chicago’s north side, is one of the first schools to sign Lt. Governor Quinn’s Illinois Sustainable Schools Compact. Check out the environmental club’s bright green T-shirts!
Albany Park Multicultural Academy is housed in one of the few LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) school buildings in Illinois. This high-tech, energy efficient building boasts features like a rooftop garden – plants growing on the roof – as well as lots of glass strategically placed to collect passive solar energy which reduces the amount of artificial lighting needed inside during the day time. Digital sensors inside classrooms automatically shut the lights off when rooms are not occupied, also preventing wasted energy.
In the future, Albany Park Multicultural Academy plans to organize more environmentally-related field trips.
