Sustainable Schools Symposium

Over 300 individuals attended the 2009 Sustainable Schools Symposium on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Joliet Central High School.  Attendees from around the state and from as far as Iowa included teachers, school superintendents and principals, parents, school board members, facility managers, custodians, education advocates, State employees, school architects, non-profit professionals, and student environmental leaders. 

The symposium featured ways to make schools sources of environmental innovation and inspiration, showcasing best practices from schools and organizations throughout the state.  Topics covered at the symposium included school renovation and construction policies, walkable school location, school transportation, energy efficiency and renewable energy, water conservation, green cleaning and indoor air quality, sustainable food purchasing, green curriculum, and school-community projects to address climate change.
