Highland Community College has broken ground for a 5,500 square foot Wind Turbine Technology Center. The Center will be fully available for students beginning in the fall 2009 semester and will provide space to house an Associate's of Applied Science in Wind Turbine Technology. Additionally, the new center will be fitted with specialized tools and supplies through a partnership with Greenlee Textron, Inc. Uses a 10% ethanol blend in fleet vehicles, with hopes of switching the current gasoline storage tank to E85 as the school moves to flex-fuel vehicles Beginning to use an 11% biodiesel blend in diesel equipment. GED and Upward Bound programs use college fleet vehicles to provide rides for students, allowing many to leave personal vehicles at home and reducing emissions as well as on-campus traffic. Pick up routes are designed to be efficient. Evaluating the use of sustainable cleaning products. Currently uses many green and non-toxic general purpose cleaners, deodorizers, whiteboard cleaners, and furniture polish. Working with a current vendor who is going green to evaluate effectiveness and cost efficiency of its products.
