Standing Up for Illinois - Office of Lt Governor Pat Quinn

Do you have good dental hygiene?

· Are your teeth clean and free of particles and debris?
· Are your gums pink and healthy?
· Does your mouth feel and smell clean?

Or do you have poor dental hygiene?

· Do your gums hurt or bleed when you brush or floss your teeth?
· Is bad breath a constant problem?

When you should see your dentist

· You should visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups.
· If your gums hurt or bleed when you brush or floss, or you suffer from persistent bad
breath, see your dentist. These conditions may indicate a problem.
· Your dentist or hygienist can teach good dental hygiene techniques and can help point
out areas of your mouth that require more attention during brushing and flossing.

Tips for a Healthy Mouth

· Brush twice a day with an ADA accepted toothpaste to remove plaque, the leading
cause of tooth decay and gum disease.
· Floss every day to remove plaque from between your teeth and under your gumline.
· Eat a balanced diet and limit sugary snacks and soda pop.
· Visit the dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups.
