The plan will include an interactive water feature, which will provide a shallow depth to encourage wading, touching of the boulders and splashing in the falls.
The plan will also include a fishing pier, a festival plaza, an event meadow along the river and several picnic areas. Also, don’t forget to check out the new river promenade/walkway. This 10’ walkway rests on the edge of the bluff overlooking the Illinois River. There will also be several beaches located alongside the walkway.
Travel southwest of Pekin to Cass County and the Illinois Main Street river town of Beardstown. Founded by Thomas Beard around 1820, Beardstown sits on the Illinois River and was once a major port using the river to transport goods and livestock to central and southern Illinois.
Take the time to visit the Beardstown River Museum (121 North State Street). Here you can learn about early-Beardstown and view river artifacts. The Beardstown River Museum is occupied in the same building as the Lincoln Courthouse Museum.
