Still located in Northeast Illinois, travel to DeKalb County and the Main Street community of Genoa. Located on the Kishwaukee River, Genoa is a must-stop on the Rollin’ on the River tour. Start off by exploring Russell Forest Preserve, which offers an array of river activities.
Also while in Genoa, visit the Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Museum. The museum holds many items including the first horse-drawn hearse of DeKalb County.
Marengo, one of the newest Illinois Main Street communities also lies along the Kishwaukee River. Nearby open areas are home to some of the most abundant vegetation and animal colonies in one of the state’s healthiest and cleanest watersheds.
