The Mississippi River
Still located in Northeast Illinois, travel to DeKalb County and the Main Street community of Genoa. Located on the Kishwaukee River, Genoa is a must-stop on the Rollin’ on the River tour. Start off by exploring Russell Forest Preserve, which offers an array of river activities.
Also while in Genoa, visit the Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Museum. The museum holds many items including the first horse-drawn hearse of DeKalb County.
Continue your Illinois Main Street river tour southwest to Quincy. Located on the Mississippi River, there is something for everyone in this Gem City. Start off by visiting Villa Katherine. This 1900 restored Moorish villa, overlooking the Mississippi River, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Another must-stop in Quincy is Quinsippi Island. This island on the Mississippi River features historic cabins, a harbor, and even a beach.
