The Mississippi River

Still located in Northeast Illinois, travel to DeKalb County and the Main Street community of Genoa. Located on the Kishwaukee River, Genoa is a must-stop on the Rollin’ on the River tour. Start off by exploring Russell Forest Preserve, which offers an array of river activities.

This 1900 restored Moorish villa, overlooking the Mississippi River, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Another must-stop in Quincy is Quinsippi Island. This island on the Mississippi River features historic cabins, a harbor, and even a beach.

Traveling south of Springfield and into the Southern regions of Illinois, you will find a continuing venue of activities for river enthusiasts. Continue your Illinois Main Street river tour to Southwestern Illinois and the Main Street town of Alton.

This is one of America’s great river towns located right on the banks of the Mississippi River where one can embark on a paddle-wheeler ride.
