Filipino Vets
In World War II, Filipino soldiers proudly fought side by side with the American armed forces. In 1946, a federal bill stripped the Filipino veterans of their promised benefits. Today, only about 100 Filipino veterans who assisted the U.S. military are still alive in Illinois.
In April 2005, Lt. Governor Quinn marched with these veterans and joined Rep. Rich Bradley’s (D-Chicago) successful campaign to win passage of the Filipino World War II Veterans Initiative. This resolution calls for prompt payment of the promised benefits.
If you are a veteran living in Illinois who needs assistance obtaining government benefits and services please contact Operation Home Front at 866-417-8889 or email OperationHomeFront@operationhomefront.org.
