Lt. Governor Pat Quinn kicks off Illinois Education Association Representative Assembly, commends dedication to excellence in public education (CHICAGO) - On Friday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m., Lt. Governor Pat Quinn will deliver the keynote speech to more than 1,200 K-12 teachers, higher education personnel, educational support professionals, retirees and student members at the 154th annual Illinois Education Association (IEA) Representative Assembly at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, Grand Ballroom, Rosemont. "I salute the Illinois Education Association for their continued dedication to improving the quality of education in Illinois," Quinn said. "And I want to encourage all members of the Regional Assembly to return to their student, teacher, and professional constituents and strengthen the voice of the Illinois Education Associations's call for excellence and equality in public education in the Land of Lincoln." The Representative Assembly is composed of approximately 1,400 IEA elected delegates from across the state. The delegates come together annually to represent their region at the Regional Assembly and act on resolutions, reports and recommendations of the Board of Directors and motions by fellow delegates. The IEA is comprised of 130,000 Illinois members and is an affiliate of the National Education Association, which includes nearly 2.7 million teachers and school employees working for the betterment of public schools. The Representative Assembly provides delegates the opportunity to participate in the greater IEA decision-making process by attending open hearings covering the policy areas and issues the IEA faces. Quinn will be joined by IEA President Ken Swanson; IEA Vice President Robert Blake; IEA Secretary and Treasurer Cinda Klickna; IEA Executive Director Joe Anderson; and IEA Director of Government Relations Jim Reed.
