The Green Government Coordinating Council is helping more than 70 state agencies reduce the states use of energy-wasting technologies.
The Illinois General Assembly recently passed an amendment to the Government Buildings Energy Cost Reduction Act of 1991 to mandate the use of energy-saving lighting technology.
The revised act requires the state to use Energy Star labeled light builds in state owned or leased facilities that are 1,000 square feet of more in size.
The Green Government Coordinating Council is working with the state agencies to implement this requirement in their new sustainability plans.
The Lt. Governor's Office was already an Energy Star partner organization. For more information on the Lt. Governor's energy initiatives, please visit www.BlackoutSolutions.org.
