Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn unveils Chicago’s first “no-cost, no-fuel refueling station”

(Chicago) – On Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11:00 a.m., Lt. Governor Pat Quinn will join with Beverly Unitarian Church, the Green Sanctuary Group and the Electric Automobile Association to officially open an electric vehicle rapid recharging station in the church parking lot, accelerating a movement that will soon see a network of recharging stations throughout the Chicago area.

“We want to salute Beverly Unitarian Church for opening its parking lot to Chicago’s first no-cost,

no-fuel refueling station,” Quinn said. “This is another step toward reducing our dependency on foreign oil, and drivers who choose to abandon fuel-guzzling vehicles for the electric variety will spare both the environment and their pocket books.”

Drivers certainly won’t find a better price for “refills” anywhere else. The Electric Automobile Association and Beverly Unitarian Church will allow drivers to quickly recharge the batteries of their electric vehicles free of charge. And if the Electric Automobile Association has its way, this will be just the first of a network of rapid recharging stations throughout the Chicago area.

The Electric Automobile Association is encouraging more congregations and non-profit organizations to follow the pioneering example of Beverly Unitarian Church by providing the space for a free electric vehicle rapid recharging station. If more congregations follow this pioneering lead, churchgoers across Chicago will be able to recharge their electric vehicle while attending services.

Currently there are just three recharging stations in the Chicago area to support electric vehicles that must recharge every 50 miles, or so. Creating a network of recharging stations will create more flexibility for drivers interested in converting to electric vehicles. And providing stations that recharge rapidly – in about two hours compared to three or four times that – will create a more convenient option for drivers.

Quinn will be joined by Allan J Lindrup, chairman of the Green Sanctuary Group of Beverly Unitarian Church, Rev. Karen Matteson, minister at Beverly Unitarian Church, and Ted Lowe, president of the Electric Automobile Association’s local chapter.
