Lt. Governor Pat Quinn kicks off 38th Annual Illinois Agricultural Legislative Day!

This Thursday, March 6, at 8:30 a.m., Lt. Governor Pat Quinn will join with farmers, legislators, business and community leaders at the 38^th Annual Illinois Agricultural Legislative Day. Quinn will discuss the importance of agriculture to the economy of Illinois as well as the need for innovative strategies that allow residents of the Land of Lincoln to compete globally while living locally.

"We salute the Illinois citizens, farmers and business leaders who work every day to boost our state's economy while preserving an Illinois way of life," Quinn said. "We must continue our commitment to supporting all Illinois residents by expanding access to adequate transportation, affordable health care, clean water, high-speed Internet and All-American energy resources."

Quinn is chairman of the Governor's Rural Affairs Council, which recently celebrated 21 years of collaborative efforts to advance the rural economy while improving education, transportation and health care services. Quinn will discuss some of the state's recent successes, including a $21-million federal grant that will help connect rural hospitals and clinics across Illinois to a shared fiber optic network that will significantly improve access to quality health care.

The Annual Illinois Agricultural Legislative Day provides a forum to discuss the importance of agriculture in Illinois' economy.  Participants can acquaint themselves with leaders in the agricultural community and establish networking relationships that positively affect Illinois agriculture.

Following his speech to kick off Illinois Agricultural Day, Quinn will join with members of the Illinois Future Farmers of America for a photo opportunity at 10:00 a.m. on the East Capitol Steps.
