The annual Mid-American Canoe race runs right through Batavia on the first Sunday in June, starting in St. Charles and finishing in Aurora.
Head north to the Main Street community of St. Charles. Also located on the Fox River, St. Charles is a fantastic way to experience river recreation and natural beauty.
Take a paddlewheel riverboat cruise on the “St. Charles Belle” or the “Fox River Queen.” You can even come aboard and enjoy one of the daily afternoon sightseeing trips.
In St. Charles, the Fox River is also bordered by the St. Charles Park District as well as local forest preserve property. There are many sightseeing and picnicking opportunities within this green corridor of scenic beauty.
From St. Charles, continue traveling north to the Main Street community of Elgin, also located on the Fox River. Visit beautiful Walton Island. This park is linked on each side by a pedestrian bridge and includes a flag memorial created by a local artist. Several events are held each year on this unique island. Walton Island is part of Elgin's "Riverfront Master Plan". The plan will include a multi-use pedestrian trail, great for cycling, running and walking along Elgin's recreational gem, the Fox River. |
