Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn will officially welcome to Illinois hundreds of delegates from across the nation who are taking part in the 10th Annual Rural Telecom Congress in Springfield.

The three-day conference brings together national leaders who are committed to expanding broadband services in rural communities. The conference stated on Monday with a presentation by David Cavallo, Director of the "One Laptop Per Child" program, who discussed the impact of broadband technology on education.

The conference continues through Wednesday with attendees enjoying plenary sessions and presentations on topics ranging from rural broadband policy to telemedicine and telehealth issues, and the promise of E-commerce on Main Streets.

�This conference will help us to develop innovative, effective ways to bring reliable, high-speed broadband computer networks to rural communities throughout our nation,� said Quinn, who chairs the Illinois Broadband Deployment Council and the Governor�s Rural Affairs Council.

Quinn will join the conference attendees on Tuesday for dinner at 7:00 p.m. and will give welcome remarks at 7:40 p.m. Following Quinn�s address, Walter McCormick, President and CEO of the U.S. Telecom Association, will discuss the importance of building a broadband nation.
