Lt. Governor Quinn kicks off Citizens Utility Board free phone bill clinic

CHICAGO - October 30, 2008. Lt. Governor Pat Quinn kicked off the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) free "phone bill clinic" for Illinois consumers, offering expert, individualized advice on how to save hundreds of dollars a year. On average, CUB's advice can save individual phone customers as much as $500 per year!
"These clinics offer consumers a chance to meet one-on-one with experts who can analyze their bills and suggest easy, practical ways to save hundreds of dollars each year," Quinn said. "CUB also offers convenient phone bill analysis through a telephone hotline, online money-saving tools or via e-mail, so everyone can take advantage of this opportunity."
The phone bill clinic was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 30 in the atrium of the James R. Thompson Center. Consumers needed to bring a recent phone bill to receive an individualized, cost-cutting analysis.
Participants learn how to receive a $20 credit on their long-distance bill and gain tips on how to access CUB's online money-saving tool, the "CUB Cellphone Saver." The "CUB Cellphone Saver" is a state-of-the-art online tool that automatically analyzes individual wireless bills, identifying the cheapest calling plans, providing customized money-saving tips, spotting billing errors, and potentially cutting a caller's costs by hundreds of dollars a year. The tool can be found at CUBCellphoneSaver.com.
"These days, consumers face dark headlines about the economy and utility rate hikes, but a CUB phone-bill clinic can give them the tools they need to protect their bottom lines," CUB Executive Director David Kolata said. "Armed with state-of-the-art online tools and a vast knowledge of Illinois' phone markets, CUB has been showing customers how to cut their phone bills by an average of $500 a year. You just can't find a free service like a CUB phone bill clinic anywhere else."
Quinn spearheaded the successful 1982 referendum effort that led to the creation of CUB, Illinois' leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization.
