One Laptop Per Child

On November 12, 2007, Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn purchased six One Laptop Per Child XO laptops as part of a limited opportunity to Give 1 Get 1. Three of the XO laptops will be awarded to 3rd grade students here in Illinois based upon an essay on the following question: how can laptops help change your community and the world? The Lt. Governor will donate the remaining three XO laptops to 3rd grade children in a developing country.

Almost 1,000 essays were received during the contest. The Lt. Governor is reviewing the essays and will announce the three lucky winners in January.

One Laptop Per Child a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving education everywhere has developed the low-cost, durable XO laptop in order to provide children around the world with new opportunities to educate, explore, experiment, and express themselves.

The XO laptop is a compact, energy-efficient machine created especially for children living in the most remote environments to enjoy laptop learning at its best. One Laptop Per Child created the powerful laptop to transform the content and quality of learning in emerging nations.
