Lt Governor Welcomes Human Rights Advocate Mariane Pearl

At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn will join the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center in welcoming human rights advocate and author Mariane Pearl, featured speaker at the organization's 2008 Humanitarian Awards Dinner, to be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Drive.
Ms. Pearl, who is making her first-ever public appearance in the Chicago area, is the widow of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was brutally murdered in Karachi, Pakistan in 2002. With her husband's family, Ms. Pearl has created the Daniel Pearl Foundation to promote cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and innovative communications.
"Mariane Pearl's courage and commitment to fighting injustice and hatred have made her a heroine to millions of people around the globe," said Quinn, who will introduce Ms. Pearl at Thursday's dinner. "I am honored to welcome her as she joins the Illinois Holocaust Museum in upholding the values of tolerance, freedom and human dignity."
