Lt. Governor Quinn promotes sustainable practices at Green Business Conference in Des Plaines



On Friday, March 28, at 12:40 p.m., Lt. Governor Pat Quinn will be the featured speaker at the Green Business Conference and Luncheon and will recognize Des Plaines' recent efforts to improve the sustainability of the city at Oakton Community College, TenHoeve Center Rooms 1608 and 1610, 1600 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines.

Quinn, who chairs the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council, will be speaking on how state agencies, local governments, and educational institutions can improve sustainable practices by making simple changes in their everyday operations.

The City of Des Plaines has signed onto the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus' Greenest Region Compact and will promote the World Wildlife Fund's "Earth Hour" - where residents and businesses are encouraged to turn off their lights from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008 - to cut light pollution and conserve wasted energy.

The Green Business Conference will be held from noon until 3 p.m. with a variety of businesses, environmental leaders and local officials addressing topics such as leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) standards, how corporations have reduced their environmental footprint, and cost-effective ways to conserve resources and reduce waste pollution.

Also speaking at the conference will be:  Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia; Des Plaines Ald. Mark Walsten (6th); Candice Alley, Program Coordinator for Global Initiatives HSBC - North America; and Debbie C. Hammond, Director of Global Health and Safety Governance for Abbott International.
