Governor Quinn Salutes Illinois’ Veterans
WHEATON – November 11, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today honored Illinois’ Veterans and servicemembers at a Veterans Day ceremony at Wheaton North High School to honor the memory of Army Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller. Staff Sgt Miller, a Wheaton native, posthumously received the Congressional Medal of Honor earlier this year for his heroics while serving in Afghanistan.

At an event in Chicago, Governor Quinn was joined by representatives from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, the Illinois National Guard and the USO of Illinois.
Governor Quinn Unveils New Veterans Cash Lottery Ticket
CHICAGO – November 9, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today unveiled the new Veterans Cash lottery ticket, a scratch-off ticket that benefits Illinois Veterans. All proceeds from the ticket go to fund rehabilitative programs and other services for Illinois’ Veterans. Since Governor Quinn championed the program in 2006, it has generated more than $8.4 million for Veterans organizations across the state.
Governor Quinn Highlights State’s Efforts to Increase Affordable Housing Options
CHICAGO – October 25, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today commended Illinois’ housing leaders at the 2010 Governor’s Conference on Affordable Housing for their efforts in charting a course to further Illinois’ economic recovery. Governor Quinn highlighted the state’s dedication to affordable housing, including community stabilization, supportive housing to end homelessness, affordable homeownership programs and green building.
Governor Quinn Announces State Investment in New Housing for Homeless Veterans
CHICAGO – October 14, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $4 million state investment to help build a housing development that will provide quality, affordable apartments and supportive services for 80 Veterans who are homeless. Approximately 75 jobs will be created during the construction of Hope Manor Apartments in Chicago.
Governor Quinn Honors Families of Fallen Illinois Heroes at Gold Star Mothers Ceremony
CHICAGO – September 26, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today presented Gold Star Banners to 22 Illinois mothers whose sons and daughters died in combat while serving their country in the Global War on Terror. More than 70 members of Illinois’ Gold Star families who lost family members on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001 attended the ceremony at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
Governor Quinn Announces $2.4 Million Capital Project at Quincy Veterans’ Home
QUINCY – September 6, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced the awarding of contracts for a $2.4 million construction project at the Illinois Veterans’ Home at Quincy, the latest work to begin under the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program.
Governor Quinn Touts Jobs for Returning Servicemembers
CHICAGO – September 5, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn was joined today by Veterans and labor leaders to highlight the success of the Helmets to Hardhats program for returning servicemembers. Skills obtained through the program help transition Veterans from military duties to careers in the construction industry. The program also provides job placement assistance.
