Lt. Governor Quinn's office presents the 2008 Green Government Awards

SPRINGFIELD - December 12, 2008. Lt. Governor Quinn's office presented 13 Green Government Awards to state agencies that have shown an exceptional commitment to improving the environmental quality of Illinois. The presentation will took place during the third annual Sustainable Government Symposium.
"I salute the agencies represented here today for their commitment to making our state more sustainable," Quinn said. "We can all learn from one another and work together to make the Land of Lincoln green."
The 2008 Green Government Award recipients and their award categories are:
- Capital Development Board - Construction and Renovation
- Central Management Services, Bureau of Property Management - Facilities Management
- Central Management Services, Bureau of Strategic Sourcing and Procurement - Purchasing
- Central Management Services, Division of Vehicles - Transportation
- Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity - Education and Outreach
- Illinois Commerce Commission - Office Operations
- Illinois Department of Revenue - Waste Reduction and Recycling
- Illinois Department of Transportation - Transportation
- Illinois Environmental Protection Agency - Energy Efficiency and Conservation
- Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission - Waste Reduction and Recycling
- Illinois State Board of Education - Facilities Management
- Illinois State Toll Highway Authority - Water Quality and Conservation
- Illinois Student Assistance Commission - Office Operations
In addition to the awards ceremony, the Sustainable Government Symposium featured a panel session and discussion groups focusing on green initiatives. The Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council also held its quarterly meeting.
Lt. Governor Quinn serves as chairman of the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council, which works with state agencies to develop policies that reduce pollution, promote conservation and integrate green practices into state government operations.
