Governor Quinn Signs Legislation on Memorial Day Weekend to Honor Illinois’ Servicemembers

CHICAGO – May 29, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today signed two bills into law that support Illinois’ servicemembers. The new laws increase foreclosure protections for active-duty servicemembers and expand the War on Terrorism Compensation Act, allowing more servicemembers to receive a $100 service compensation.

Governor Quinn Encourages Donation of Unused Air Miles to Support Families of Wounded Servicemembers

CHICAGO – May 30, 2010. Governor Quinn today encouraged the public to support Operation Hero Miles, a program that supports servicemembers who were injured in Iraq or Afghanistan. Operation Hero Miles assists families allowing them to visit their loved ones who are recovering in military hospitals around the world through the donation of unused frequent flyer miles.

NORMAL – June 7, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced an agreement between the Illinois Department of Military Affairs and Heartland Community College to build an Illinois Army National Guard facility on the college’s campus.

Governor Quinn Signs Law To Help Veterans with Addiction, Mental Health Disorders

CHICAGO – June 12, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today signed a bill into law that creates the Veterans and Servicemembers Court Treatment Act. The new law allows counties throughout Illinois to create special judicial courts for Veterans who may have mental health or substance abuse disorders.

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE – June 28, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today signed a bill into law that eases school transition for military children as their parents move between states on assignment. The legislation will impact approximately 10,000 children in Illinois.

Governor Quinn Signs Legislation to Increase Emergency Care Options for Illinois Veterans

CHICAGO – July 3, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today signed a bill into law that will allow federal U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health facilities in Illinois to join local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) systems. The new law will help provide additional emergency care resources to Veterans throughout Illinois.
