St. Agnes of Bohemia Catholic School

This school on Chicago’s southwest side is the largest Hispanic Catholic School in the Midwest, and we are so proud that they care about sustainability!

Students at St. Agnes of Bohemia are active with sustainable food production, and have visited a nearby organic farm to learn about soil, plants, and numerous aspects of ecology. Compost bins are located in classrooms, and the accumulated compost gets used in school landscaping.

St. Agnes of Bohemia takes energy conservation seriously, too. The school plans to host a community event in the near future where students hand out donated compact fluorescent light bulbs to parents and others in the community, saving electricity and burned fossil fuels that contribute to climate change.

The school is also in the process of talking to companies about installing solar panels on the school building, further reducing the school’s fossil fuel energy consumption!
